چکیده

We compare bridge voltage response measurements to ac magnetic fields from a giant magnetoresistive sensor with noise measurements on the same sensor. The small-signal response (for applied ac magnetic fields between 0.1 mOe rms and 30 mOe) is much less than is the slope of a dc voltage versus field curve, because of hysteretic effects. Noise statistics are used to estimate the size and number of the sites at which domain realignments occur near the response peak. Similar estimates are made by using fine-structure on the ac response curve. For ac fields of about 0.3 mOe rms, sharp spikes appear in the field-dependent response, giving rise to large harmonic distortion, varying in an irregular way with the ac amplitude. Domain sizes are estimated for the regions, giving these nonlinear response spikes, and for the domains, giving the magnetic noise, and a comparison based on a fluctuation–dissipation relation of the noise, and the response shows the importance of hysteresis.

AC - driven AMR and GMR magnetoresistors

Anisotropic (AMR) and Giant (GMR) Magnetoresistive sensors are attractive for industrial applications, as they are more sensitive and stable than Hall sensors. Their performance can be improved by AC excitation: flipping for AMR and AC biasing for GMR. AC excitation lowers the hysteresis, reduces the offset and in some cases also decreases sensor noise. The sensitivity to perpendicular fields i...

Spatial detection of ferromagnetic wires using GMR sensor and based on shape induced anisotropy

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new technique for row spacing measurement in a wire array using giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensor. The self-rectifying property of the GMR-based probes leads to accurately detection of the magnetic field fluctuations caused by surface-breaking cracks in conductive materials, shape-induced magnetic anisotropy, etc. The ability to manufacture probes h...

Submicron giant magnetoresistive sensors for biological applications

We have fabricated submicron giant magnetoresistive (GMR) structures and evaluated their sensitivity for biomagnetic applications. GMR devices were fabricated using electron beam lithography, with minimum dimensions below 100 nm. We developed a new characterization technique for these sensors, using a scanned nanoscale magnetic probe and monitoring the resulting response of the sensors. The mag...

Fractional Modeling of the AC Large-Signal Frequency Response in Magnetoresistive Current Sensors

Fractional calculus is considered when derivatives and integrals of non-integer order are applied over a specific function. In the electrical and electronic domain, the transfer function dependence of a fractional filter not only by the filter order n, but additionally, of the fractional order α is an example of a great number of systems where its input-output behavior could be more exactly mod...

Model for detection of immobilized superparamagnetic nanosphere assay labels using giant magnetoresistive sensors

Commercially available superparamagnetic nanospheres are commonly used in a wide range of biological applications, particularly in magnetically assisted separations. A new and potentially significant technology involves the use of these particles as labels in magnetoresistive assay applications. In these assays, magnetic bead labels are used like fluorescent labels except that the beads are exc...
